Recap - The Penguins must have enjoyed the last couple of days on the beach because they sure weren't ready to play a hockey game last night. They were completely outplayed, outhit and outperformed by a team that has virtually no chance of making the playoffs, 5-2. Pens goals were scored by Malone and Letang.
Florida came out on the ice in the first with a definate hunger to take control of the game and that is just what they did, scoring 3 goals in the opening period on 19 shots. Head coach, Michel Therrien showed Fleury to the bench at intermission and sent Conklin in for further pummeling. Ty did make a better showing the rest of the game, allowing only 2 goals on 23 shots, it was the lack of offense from the Pens top lines that put the game out of reach. Though the Pens did show some life in the second it was too little, too late. Florida had complete control of the game by then and dictated the tempo which the Pens could not match.
The loss allowed Montreal to take over first place in the conference. Pittsburgh is currently 2nd tied with the Canadiens in points but Montreal has a game in hand on the Pens.
Next Up - Sunday at Washtington. It is a national game on NBC at 12:30 pm
